Profile
It is an interdisciplinary course in natural sciences, focusing on structures of the size scale of the nanometer (1 nm = 1 billionth of a meter). Research in nanosciences deals with the production, characterization and manipulation of individual atoms and molecules, as well as the properties of structures and processes of this magnitude. Here, there are special new features, based on surface, quantum and self-organization effects, which become more and more important in everyday life in the area of information technology, energy, health and communication. The great, future-oriented peculiarity of the nanoscience lies in the interdisciplinary interplay of many, actually specialized, branches of the natural sciences.
