Profile
The performing arts are today more and more operating on a global and international level. Due to these developments professional fields related to theatre are changing and require intercultural knowledge and specific skills to be able to cope with project related and curational challenges. The Master programme “International Theatre Studies/Theatre and Curation” is responding to this situation and will provide students with competences and skills that are important to their professional future. At the same time the study programme will expand their understanding of theatre and provide advanced theories and methods for the in-depth analysis of international contemporary and historical performance practices. Students graduating form the study programme will be able to work in the fields of theatre, festivals, cultural institutions and they will be well prepared to follow more expanded research in the academic field. This double bind of professional aspects and advanced research qualifications offers the students a profound basis for their professional career. In the centre of teaching methods and didactics is the concept of supervised project work (both in research and practice) that demands from the students to engage in autonomous and group steered activities to foster their independent thinking, self-organization skills and creativity. We have a close cooperation with the department of theatre studies at Amsterdam University (UvA). Our students have the opportunity to take part in a study exchange of one semester in the Master programme “International Dramaturgy” at UvA (outgoing, fall, year 2). Our students will also take part in the Winter School at UvA, our teachers/professors will contribute to the teaching there. Students of Amsterdam will come to Stockholm either for an internship or for one semester (incoming, fall, year 1).
