Profile
Most chemical research involves synthesis and characterisation of new molecules. Basically, a trial and error approach. This specialisation goes one step further: it aims at fundamentally unravelling the properties of molecules and materials. We try to find answers by developing theory and applying physical set-ups for advanced spectroscopic experiments, involving high magnetic fields, free-electron lasers, scanning probe microscopes, nuclear magnetic resonance, etc..Radboud University hosts a large number of advanced spectroscopic facilities. You’ll get the chance to work with scientific equipment that is unique in Europe and sometimes even cannot be found anywhere else in the world. All Chemistry and Materials Science oriented Physics departments are combined in the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM)(verwijst naar een andere website). Therefore, collaborating is second nature to us.We have multiple collaborations with companies ranging from multinationals (Nouryon, DSM, Shell, Teijin, Unilever) to start-ups, where Master’s students can perform internships. You’ll meet a diverse group of researchers in a personal setting: a good starting point for your future network.
