Profile
The Economics & Governance specialisation of the Master in Public Administration teaches you to formulate problem-solving approaches to concrete policy issues found at the intersection between economics and public administration. This specialisation is a unique joint offering of the Department of Economics and the Institute of Public Administration. The E&G specialisation aims to develop professionals who are able to analyse and address policy problems broadly, and in the field of social policy and market regulation specifically. The focal point is on welfare states and markets. You learn about the role of government in creating, facilitating and controlling markets. You also examine the status of the current welfare state, such as the pension system, social security, labour markets, and income distribution in society; and the challenges the welfare state currently faces. You are provided a strong multidisciplinary preparation for a professional career in areas such as socio-economic policy- making or market regulation. The combination of applied economics and public governance forms a solid base for policy-makers, consultants and future leaders.The focal point of the E&G specialisation is welfare states and markets. You develop your skills in economic reasoning, and conducting economic analysis, while learning about the role of government in creating, facilitating and controlling markets.The 1-year Master of Public Administration/Economics and Governance specialisation builds on two core courses followed by every MPA student: Public Institutions and Public Policy & Values, which give you an understanding of cutting-edge research in the field of public administration. Four specialisation-specific courses, one elective, and practical Research Design and Research Methods courses fill out your first three study blocks and prepare you to write your culminating master’s thesis in Block 4.

Admissions Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Public Administration or degree with at least 50 EC for components related to the field of Public Administration and competence in the methodology of social science research as evidenced by prior course work, CV.
