Profile
The profile of the master’s program in Survey Statistics is characterized by two specifics. On the one hand, the focus is on modern data collection and estimation methods. The foundation of political and economic decision-processes is nowadays often based on statistics and in particular on indicators, where validity, accuracy and up-to-dateness are playing a major role. In general, these terms are often denoted for simplicity as data quality. The numerous research projects that are promoted by the European Commission and the official statistics show the need for a deeper understanding of the right methodology and for specially trained researchers and users. On the other hand, synergies within the Department IV represented by the WiSo subjects (business and social sciences subjects) and the Research Centre for Regional and Environmental Statistics are supposed to foster the multidisciplinarity for the Masters Course in Survey Statistics at the University of Trier.Students are educated well-grounded in the subject of Survey Statistics; beyond that, they are educated with an interdisciplinary focus on application fields such as economics, business studies or sociology, which are divided into modules. Further connections to mathematics and computer science show the interdisciplinary orientation of a modern survey statistician, but who always accounts for the concrete substance scientifically focusing.
