The Masters Course in Sustainable Forest and Nature Management (SUFONAMA) is a world class and fully integrated. globally competitive programme aimed at preparing graduates qualified to cope with the huge challenges in contemporary forest and nature management while also enabling them to adapt to future, yet unknown, issues. The programme is offered by a five university consortium consisting of University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Life Sciences, Centre for Forest and Landscape and Planning, Copenhagen (Denmark); Bangor University, School of Environment, Natural Resources and Geography, Bangor (UK); Georg-August University, Faculty of Forest Science and Forest Ecology, Göttingen (Germany); Swedish Agricultural University, Southern Swedish Forest Research Station, Alnarp (Sweden); University of Padova, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Padova (Italy). There are four third-country high-profile Associate Partners. The course consists of a year of study at one of three institutions (Bangor, Copenhagen, Göttingen) followed by a second study year at one of the four other institutions. The aim of the first year is to provide a thorough and broad introduction to sustainable forest and nature management in the temperate regions of the world. This allows students to choose freely among the five specialisation options in the second year. The first year ends with a Joint Summer Module including fieldwork in a Consortium Partner country. Specialisation options in the second year are: conservation biology and land management (Bangor); management of forest and nature for society (Copenhagen); forest and nature management in changing climate (Göttingen); forest management in Scandinavia and the Baltic region (Alnarp); mountain forestry and watershed management (Padova). The language of instruction is English. Local language courses are available at all partner institutions. Total student population is expected to be 30 per edition, giving a ratio of approx. two core faculty members to every student. The teaching staff is very active in research and students profit from their global experience. The SUFONAMA Course offers an integrated study programme resulting in a joint degree that is fully credited and recognised in all participating countries.
