History is the study of the past, but it is incredibly relevant to today’s world. Students in History at NUI Galway learn about the past and are also trained in techniques invaluable in numerous career paths. The BA in History is a four-year denominated degree, in which students study History as a Major together with two other Minors. The BA History has 3 Exit Pathways: 1) Historical Studies, 2) History and Globalisation Studies, and 3) History, Politics, and Philosophy.
In Year 1, students study History by attending a year-long course on the History of Ireland and Europe and the skills historians use in their work, plus two related Arts subjects.
From Year 2, depending on the Exit Pathway, students study one of the following:
- Major in History plus two Minors in 2 Arts Subjects;
- Major in History plus a Minor in Globalisation Studies and another Arts Minor;
