Industrial Design Engineering
Profile
This bachelor’s programme combines technology and ingenuity to create useful and well-designed consumer products that meet the demands of the target audience. In the programme of Industrial Design at the University of Twente you will learn how to combine technological insight, creativity, and a feeling for consumer behaviour in order to design or improve products. The products you deliver need to be functional and attractive. But there’s more to it: your design should be producible at a reasonable cost, easy to use, and well suited for packaging and transport. The programme of Industrial Design prepares you for all these requirements. What distinguishes this programme is a firm focus on the future. You’ll acquire a firm grasp of the entire design process, from the conceptual stage to market introduction. At a scientific level you will gain fundamental knowledge that will allow you to sail a tight course between technological possibilities and market dynamics. That’s how you will become an enterprising designer.Another typical programme feature is design-oriented project-led education. For example, you will be given real-world assignments from industry. With your team you’ll develop a prototype and present it to the customer. It wouldn’t be the first time a student product actually ended up in stores this way.
