Description
Koç University was founded in 1993 as a non-profit private university in Istanbul, Türkiye. Since its establishment, Koç University has become one of the leading universities in Türkiye, distinguished by notable contributions to the elevation of education, knowledge and service both domestically and beyond.
Student Life
“There are multiple clubs that are formed and run by students which proceed their activities in coordination with the Extracurricular Activities Office. Students who participate in these clubs can improve themselves in a social and academic sense, hasten their adaptation to the environment of the university and take part in important events, learning how to be a team player. Among the traditional social events which take place at Koç University are the Intercollegiate Debate Championship, Orientation Days, Traditional New Year Party, rock, jazz, and classical music concerts organized by Music Club, Intercollegiate Dance Festival, Intercollegiate Folk Dance Days, Social Activities KatılSAKKonuşSAK Days, San Remo Song Contest, Sevgi Gönül Theatre Days, Spring Festival, Not-Disabled Show, Sluggishness Fair, the Graduation Ball, IT Days, Room Theatre Days and Short Films Festival. The clubs also organize conferences and interview sessions on a broad selection of topics such as economy, business, psychology, international relations, history, sociology, and many more. Koç University realizes the importance of sports in the academic and personal development of students. The experience of competition, responsibilities of sportsmanship, and benefit to physical and emotional health are of great value. The new Semahat Arsel (gymnasium) sports center is a large multipurpose building with a capacity of 2000 spectators, having a 1500 meter squares main hall used for basketball, tennis, volleyball, and handball besides squash and racquetball courts, a two-floor fitness center, and an aerobics-step studio. There exist an outdoor tennis court and a soccer field. The active teams of Koç University are Basketball (Men and Women), Soccer (Men), Badminton (Men and Women), Tennis (Men and Women), Steps (Women), Handball (Men), Volleyball (Women), Skiing, and Carting. The teams have brought championships home. The men's tennis team ranked first and the women's tennis team ranked second in the national university-wide 2. League. The Carting team was the champion in the national competition. Our teams have participated in five national tournaments and have not ranked below six. The soccer and basketball intramural tournaments have been exciting events with the participation of total of 510 players.”
Housing
Housing is available for about 125-350 euros per month, depending on whether the room is single, double, or triple. Amenities include weekly housekeeping services, wifi, a swimming pool, a 24/7 health center, and a cafeteria. 60% of students live in the dorms.
