LiU is among the Swedish universities that offer the largest number of professional degree programs, in fields such as medicine, education, business, economics and engineering. Research is conducted within a variety of disciplines, with strong internationally recognized research environments, e.g. materials science, information technology, and disability studies. Since gaining university status in 1975 (and before that, too), Linkoping University has worked with innovation in education and research. For example, we were the first in Sweden to introduce interdisciplinary thematic research, problem-based learning (PBL), graduate schools, and several innovative study programs.
There are four campuses in three cities: Campus Valla and Campus US (both in Linköping), Campus Norrköping (Norrköping) and Campus Lidingö – Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies (Stockholm). Linköping University is located in the middle of one of Sweden’s most expansive regions, about 150 kilometres south of Stockholm. Kåkenhus is the heart of LiU Norrköping. It includes a café, lunch restaurant and library, the Student Health Care Centre and the Student Counselling Office.
