Profile
Do technological innovation and development interest you? During the Master’s programme in Chemistry, you work with new materials, new separation methods, and synthesis of new materials. These methods are used in medical engineering, in the building industry, and in the food industry.DISCOVER AND MODEL NEW SCIENTIFIC PHENOMENAStudying Chemistry, you gain solid knowledge and expertise in chemistry. The programme provides you with the opportunity to:resolve practical problems related to chemical engineeringinnovate, design and optimise production processes of chemicals and materialsdevelop new materials and new processesThe programme focuses on the following main areas of specialisation:Inorganic materialsControlled releaseFunctional polymersBiosolid separationINORGANIC MATERIALSThe field Inorganic Materials concerns studies of structure and properties of inorganic materials. Emphasis is placed on glassy or amorphous materials. The relationships between structure, dynamics and properties of glasses and liquids are studied by using the knowledge of materials chemistry and physics. The development of both new structural and functional materials and nano-materials is another essential part.CONTROLLED RELEASEThe field Controlled Release concerns the study and development of the group of molecules called cyclodextrins and their inclusion complexes. The interest in cyclodextrin applications includes development of novel drug delivery systems and pesticide formulations, which are more environmentally friendly than those used today.FUNCTIONAL POLYMERSThe area Functional Polymers treats the molecular design of target macromolecules, synthesis and the separation, purification and characterisation of the polymers. The principles of polymerisation dynamics and kinetics are other important aspects.BIOSOLID SEPARATIONThe field Biosolid Separation revolves around the physical chemistry of process- and waste-water treatment with special emphasis on membrane technology and its application in cleaner technology.
