This course combines the concepts of Forensic Art and Facial Imaging.
Forensic art is the use of artistic skills to create images of people or scenes for law enforcement or legal purposes. It can be used to:
- Identify suspects or victims
- Reconstruct crime scenes
- Create age progressions of missing persons
- Help juries understand evidence
Facial imaging is the creation of images of faces. It can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
- Forensic identification
- Medical diagnosis
- Cosmetic surgery

- As the first UK institution to take up the method, you’ll learn anatomy from Thiel embalmed cadavers and prosections. These cadavers are soft-fix. This means they retain real-to-life qualities, including realistic colour, tissue quality, and flexibility.
The course covers a wide range of topics including:
- anatomy
- observational drawing
- anatomical illustration skills
You’ll learn the practical techniques involved in a range of forensic art applications including:
- facial reconstruction
- post-mortem depiction
- age progression
- facial composite sketching
You will use a variety of specialist hardware. These include 3D modelling software with haptic feedback styluses and 3D scanners.

Admissions Requirements
Bachelor Degree in art/design or related forensic/anatomical science with 3.0 - 3.49 / 4.0.
A portfolio of artwork demonstrating competency across both traditional and digital media. You should submit between 10-15 images including a number of examples from direct observation, such as life drawing or portrait sculpture. You will be invited to upload your portfolio after we receive your application.
Relevant professional experience will be taken into account if you have no graduate qualifications.
