The programme trains a profile of multidisciplinary and polytechnic landscaper able to face the challenges coming from the changes of contemporary territories, a professional profile able to integrate and connect his/her specific knowledge with different fields as architecture, urbanism, agronomy and forestry sciences, hydraulic and infrastructure engineering, ecology, social sciences, history, law, economics and management of territory.The focus of the proramme is landscape design, in its main elements: open spaces, natural and anthropic, built heritage, infrastructures. The programme gives importance to preservation as well as transformation, formulating intrevention hypothesis coherent with places and their evolution and their inhabitants. The programme fulfils the objectives of protection, management and requalification of landscapes related to the European Landscape Convention.The landscape design is considered as a critical practice that allows to undesrand phenomena in their continuous evoution, and relates necessary techniques and skills. The Study Programes proposes the landscape design as a technical and cultural integration, necessary in many application fields, such as: recovery of territorial heritage, regeneration of urban peripheries, design of open space systems, parks, garden and public spaces, management of wide portions of land or nature, design of a territory’s sustainable touristic accessibility and viability. The objective of the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to MSc hereinafter referred to as LM) course in Landscape Architecture, Land, Landscape and Heritage is to form the technical and professional profile of an expert planner, capable of coherently integrating the complexity of the required knowledge to plan and manage transformations of contemporary landscapes, fully aware of the different aesthetic, technical, functional and organisational aspects. The landscaper is a figure who is capable of giving technical responses which integrate existing elements with new ones inserting them into the dynamic and evolving context of landscapes, who includes and manages the natural environment’s characteristics, the value and duties regarding historically and anthropologically relevant landscapes, who has the tools to assess values and priorities on technical, cultural and civil grounds. The Landscape Artist who graduates from the Politecnico di Milano is taught with a specific objective: to be able to produce projects, designs and visions, referring to different periods and considering the works and their future management within a realistic operational and economic budget, interacting with various other professionals and authorities.
