Profile
Manufacturing engineering is a critical link between a product’s design and its realization. A manufacturing engineer has competence in multiple technical, scientific, and managerial fields and uses them to select, develop, and improve various manufacturing processes that transform raw materials into the shipped products. Two different qualifications are offered:Manufacturing Engineering Technology, 1 year, 60 Higher Education CreditsAdvanced Manufacturing Engineering, Co-op, 2 years, 120 Higher Education CreditsWithin these programmes, multiple critical manufacturing technologies are presented and their scientific bases are discussed along with related scientific developments and ongoing challenges. Using a scientific approach, you study several manufacturing processes such as machining, welding and thermal spraying. Furthermore, several mandatory subjects such as operations management and robotics are included to better prepare you for the tasks of a manufacturing engineer.Within the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering programme, more advanced subjects are also covered: welding metallurgy, statistical process control and experiment design, additive manufacturing and surface engineering.CHOOSING BETWEEN THE 1- AND 2-YEAR PROGRAMMESThe Advanced Manufacturing Engineering programme (2 years) helps you to enhance your educational background to a level that would be attractive for working in multi-national companies or a career in research and development in industry or academia. In this programme, you will achieve a higher degree of autonomy in problem solving and innovative thinking. The two-year programme also helps you to expand your network through a Co-op (work placement) possibility (explained below). The Manufacturing Engineering Technology programme suits you if you have been working in industry and want to further your education in the field of manufacturing engineering in one year.
