Profile
During the first year of the Master’s programme there is a strong emphasis on experimental research. You will gather a lot of practical experience in the field of research to prepare you for a career as an (international) scientist. The second year allows you to look beyond the scope of science and build a bridge between science and the public, in the field of communication, management or education.Education is closely linked to on-going research within the Institute for Water and Wetlands Research, the Institute of Neuroscience and the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences. Nijmegen’s biologists are experts in the fields of animal physiology at system level as well as at cellular and molecular level. But they also are top researchers in the fields of human health, disease and development. As a Biology student, you’ll choose one of the following specialisations:-Human BiologyClinical Biology provides you with an extensive biological knowledge, and experience in working with animal and patient samples. In this way you’ll be trained to bridge the gap between early biomedical research results and clinical practice.-Medical EpigenomicsRadboud University offers the only Master’s specialisation in the Netherlands covering the function of our epigenome, a key factor in regulating gene expression and in a wide range of diseases. As epigenetic modifications are reversible, this field of science has a great potential for so-called epi-drugs.-NeurobiologyThe specialisation in Neurobiology aims at unravelling the neuro-biological mechanisms of this fascinating, complex system. We study the full spectrum from molecule to man, and from experiment to advanced theory and models. If you are looking for a broader perspective on Medical Biology, you have the option to choose one of the societal specialisations below, which take place in the second year of your Master’s programme. Please note that you always combine the societal specialisations with one of the other specialisations.-Science in SocietyThis specialisation will equip you with the tools and skills to become a professional intermediary between science and society. You’ll learn to analyse (governmental) science communication and connect scientific knowledge with divergent perspectives and interests of various stakeholders.-Science, Management and InnovationThis specialisation will teach you what is happening in the world of business and public administration, how innovation is managed in company strategies, how government designs policy and how that interacts with societal challenges.
