Profile
This 6-year Master Degree aims at forming professional doctors with biomedical and psychosocial knowledge as well as a multidisciplinary, integrated vision of the problems linked to health and diseases. They shall have an open approach to communities, local areas, disease prevention and health promotion, but also a humanistic culture to be applied to relevant medical aspects. Such specific mission adequately responds to the new needs in terms of health and health care: not only does it focus on the disease, but first and foremost on patients who are considered as a unity of psyche and soma and analysed in their social context. The course has a distinctive feature, i.e. it is held completely in English to prepare learners for a full and informed exchange at international levels. The Degree includes Italian language courses to communicate with patients. The course includes a total of 360 ECTS, of which at least 60 must be acquired via training activities aimed at developing specific professional skills. The course is organised into 12 semesters and 36 integrated courses. These correspond to specific ECTS assigned by the Council of the teaching body and comply with the table of mandatory training activities. Each ECTS corresponds to a 25-hour commitment per student: generally 8 class hours, or 12 laboratory or tutorial hours, or 20 hours of tutored study within a local educational structure as per what stated in the Didactic Regulation. Each vocational ECTS corresponds to 25 working hours per student: 20-hour vocational activities tutored by a teacher on small groups within a local educational structure plus a 5-hour individual revision on such activities. Furthermore, such medical training is also considered as the first step of a long-lasting education: hence, proper importance is given to self-learning, epidemiology and experiences both in hospitals and in the field. This way clinical reasoning and prevention culture are developed. The teaching process takes advantage of modern educational tools, such as tutorial systems, clinical trigger, problem-oriented learning, experiential learning, problem solving, decision making and extensive use of seminars and conferences. The presence of tutoring teachers is strong: they are involved in students’ training processes with teaching functions (i.e. area tutors) and support functions (i.e. personal tutors).Particular attention is paid to the acquisition of practical skills.
