Master’s programme in Urban Mobility, study track Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions (SUMT) is a master programme focusing on the holistic approach in study, design, development and evaluation of sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban environment and mobility systems.The student would learn different practical skills and broad knowledge of theories and concepts in urban planning, transport and sustainability. This includes gaining the ability to envision, identify and assess short- and long-term future consequences of plans and decisions, and develop insights of the role that transport and mobility systems have in creating an inclusive, resilient and sustainable built environment. Knowledgebase will aim for including a wide range of perspectives, from understanding people’s daily lives and mobility technologies to large-scale strategic and systemic thinking.During the first year, a similar set of courses are offered at the four involved entry points Aalto University, KTH, TU Eindhoven and UPC Barcelona. This includes learning on how to develop a strategic planning for urban areas, evaluate different data gathering and analysis approaches, and use them to analyze the dynamics of urban mobility systems, evaluate the plausible impacts of emerging mobility technologies, promoting behavioral change, and apply urban and transport appraisal methodologies.In addition, some elective courses may be chosen to prepare for a specialisation. An important part of the programme are also the Innovation and & Entrepreneurship (I&E) courses.During the second year of studies, the student chooses a specialisation option offered in one of the four exit point universities: Aalto University, KTH, TU Eindhoven and UPC Barcelona. The specialisation option includes sustainability transition and responsible innovations, governance and planning for global mobility cultures and cities, strategies for integrated transport systems management, and decision-making analysis in transport and logistics.
