Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary field which includes medical informatics, (bio)medical electronics, biomechanical engineering and biomaterials engineering, among others, which is the reason why at Lodz University of Technology it is delivered by four faculties: the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design and the Faculty of Chemistry. What is especially emphasized is the ability to use modern apparatus, diagnostic and therapeutic systems which use ICT, IT, electronic and material methods, techniques and technologies. Students also learn about the structure and properties of textronic biomedical systems used in medicine and telemedicine. They explore properties and structure of materials which can be used to produce devices and components in direct contact with organism cells. Students familiarize themselves with methods of design and manufacture of biomaterials, implants and artificial organs, and subsequently, they learn the methods to analyze their mechanical, physicochemical and biological properties as well as their applications to medicine.
