Profile
What causes diseases? How can they be diagnosed and prevented? By integrating knowledge from the molecular level with what happens in the body, this programme teaches you about the human body and homeostasis both as a whole and as an independent system. The knowledge generated through this programme will provide the basis to understand how genetics, environment and lifestyle affect our health, to create new tools and methods to improve health and the diagnosis of diseases and to develop effective new drugs. The programme gives you a broad education, from chemistry and medical biochemistry, to cell and human biology, anatomy, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, pharmacology, physiology, infection biology, and the biomedical basis of diseases. The curriculum consists of basic courses in biology and chemistry, in order to acquire the necessary knowledge for continued studies and you will get a good basic knowledge of how the body of a healthy person works. You will then continue to study various disease onsets/occurrences and how drugs are used to cure diseases. You will be trained in laboratory practices and scientific methods. During the final semester you will choose your thesis subject area within the field of biomedicine, which can be carried out either at an academic institution or at companies, such as a pharmaceutical company, in Sweden or abroad.
