The BA (Hons) English and Psychology at ATU Sligo is a unique program that integrates the study of English literature and language with psychology to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of the human condition and behavior.
- Focus: This program offers a balanced approach to both disciplines throughout the degree. Students will explore various aspects of English literature, drama, and language alongside core psychology topics like human development, learning theories, social dynamics, and mental health.
- Skills Developed: The program emphasizes critical thinking, research skills, written and oral communication, and the ability to analyze complex human behavior and motivations. These transferable skills are highly sought after by employers and postgraduate programs.

- Accreditation: The program is currently under review for accreditation with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).
- Coursework: Students will take courses in both English and Psychology throughout the program. In the final year, they have the option to specialize their final research project in their chosen field, either English or Psychology.
Notes
Tuition Fee – the Department of Education pays tuition fees for all full-time students who are citizens of a Member State of the EU and who meet the residency requirements. Most full-time undergraduate students will be covered by the Free Fees Initiative scheme for their tuition fee. Students from Northern Ireland or Great Britain do not have to pay tuition fees to study in the Republic of Ireland. All students are liable for the Student Contribution fee: €3,000. Application deadline for EU students is February 1.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 plus: SAT score of 1000+ (1800 prior to 2016) or ACT composite score of 22 and above or 2-3 Advanced Placement Examinations in relevant subjects with grades 3 and above OR 2-3 SAT subject tests in relevant subjects with a minimum score of 600 in each. Vetting Requirement: All places are offered on this programme subject to satisfactory Garda vetting clearance.
