Psychology
Profile
Psychologists study human behaviour. In the bachelor’s programme of Psychology you will learn how to observe, explain, predict, and influence both normal and deviant behaviour. The programme will introduce you to five central fields: cognitive psychology (how the brain works), social psychology (how behaviour is affected by the environment), developmental psychology (psychological change in different stages of life), personality psychology (how people differ from each other), and clinical psychology (the origins of deviant behaviour). The programme will not take long to acquaint you with the everyday reality of psychology. In project teams you will work on current problems from real-life customers. You will learn how to systematically analyse problems and design creative solutions by means of behaviour modification. New media and technology, such as smart phone applications, are part of the intervention you design. As one of the smaller Dutch universities the University of Twente offers you an informal atmosphere and personal attention. After your studies you can go to work in healthcare. Other areas where psychologists prove their worth include the worlds of government, business, and education. Wherever you go, you will be researching and analysing behaviour and looking for practical, sometimes technological solutions to psychological problems.
