All Astronomy and Astrophysics

Since we were cavemen, the mystery and splendor of the night sky have been a constant source of fascination for us. Astronomers admire the heavens, too; but in their case the mystery is entirely scientific, not philosophical. Many, in fact, rarely use telescopes. Those full-color pictures we see in National Geographic are in a sense the end result of their investigations, not an astronomical tool in their own right. Both astronomy and astrophysics, in other words, are in a sense a specific applied branch of physics. If you become a professional astronomer, your days will be filled with equations and math.Assuming that numbers don’t scare you, however, this can be a hugely rewarding scientific career. Most sciences have a few puzzles lying around, but astronomers make a habit of searching for greater insight into the very nature of the universe and even answers to “stuff that just doesn’t make sense”.
