University College Roosevelt: Liberal Arts and Science
Profile
Philosophy or physics? Medicine or mathematics? Law or a language? One of the distinguishing features of the program at UCR is that you do not have to choose. The Liberal Arts and Sciences concept is based upon the idea that today’s most complex problems can no longer be solved with a mono-disciplinary approach. Students at University College Roosevelt construct their own academic program, tailor-made to their individual interests. In doing so, the program prepares you for a world whose demands and challenges will grow more complex each year, while optimally preparing you for the master’s program or the job of your choice. After your first year, you declare a Major. This is the main focus of your studies, and can either be in Arts & Humanities, Social Science, Science, or Engineering. Another option is to do an Interdepartmental Major, where you can combine two of the four Major fields if one field is too restrictive.Within this Major, you focus on two or three tracks, amounting to around 10 courses, to specialize within a few disciplines. Tracks are sets of courses in the same field of study, such as History, Psychology, Life Science, or Data Science. If your major is Arts & Humanities or Social Science, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts. If you complete a major in Science, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Science.
