Technology for Humanity is Prof. Dr. Andreas Timm-Giel, the core motto of the Hamburg University of Technology. That is how we train young people to be committed engineers with technology and sustainability jointly in mind. That is why our research scientists work on basics and applications jointly with other colleagues and with business and industry. Technology for Humanity is something that we at the TU Hamburg experience daily in our areas of competence and cross-disciplinary research. Green Technology, Life Science Technology and Aviation and Maritime Systems define the profile of the TU Hamburg. Digitization, material sciences, and engineering methods are our daily tools and, at the same time, our frontline research topics as we aim to make technology a little more human day by day.Together with our partners in business and industry, we work daily on Technology for Humanity. Transfer of research to application is a fundamental strength of the TU Hamburg. In collaboration with the TU Hamburg subsidiary Tutech GmbH, our scientists and students take their experience into the region and frequently gain new insights into the next basic research topics.Every day our students move a little closer toward Technology for Humanity. In basic lectures and internships or electives, their sights are always set firmly on making Hamburg, the region, and the world a little bit better by using engineering know-how and methods.Founded in 1978, the TU Hamburg is one of the youngest-and at the same time one of the most successful-universities in Germany. The campus in Hamburg’s south was built between 1982 and 2005 to a design by von Gerkan, Marg und Partner (gmp). The main building is located on the site of the former Schwarzenberg barracks and forms a structure of historical and new substance with a striking entrance. The functional and, at the same time, architecturally interesting ensemble of the campus consists of a total of 15 buildings that fit into the surrounding park landscape and the urban district. The Harburg harbour area is home to other TU Hamburg locations. The Hamburg Innovation Port is still growing as a content-related and architectural interface between science and knowledge transfer.
