Fully dedicated and equipped for everything arts and culture, Brampton Road is home to our Institute of Arts. Located minutes away from the sights and sounds of Carlisle city centre, it’s also a train ride away from the stunning English Lake District, another UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Studying here you’ll be part of a community of like-minded creatives exploring, teaching and refining their natural talents. From fine artists, performers, producers, and illustrators to filmmakers, graphic designers, photographers and games designers, whatever your ambition, we’ve got your back. Student Life
A vibrant and historic heritage city, Lancaster is home to around 15,000 students from around the world. With its fair share of pubs and clubs, Lancaster has a lively music scene, as well as a selection of high street stores and independent boutiques for you to explore. Not to mention many other interesting cultural sightseeing opportunities including Lancaster Castle and the Pendlebury Witches Trail.
Our Lancaster campus occupies large green and tranquil spaces. A short walk away from campus you will find Lancaster City Centre and the beautiful Williamson Park, home to the iconic Ashton Memorial, 54 acres of park and woodland and the annual Highest Point Festival.
We want you to keep healthy and enjoy every aspect of your life whilst at university. Students have access to a range of health and sports facilities and clubs across our sites, taking advantage of local sports facilities. Each campus has something different to offer. We provide a friendly and supportive environment within our small, welcoming campuses, so why not get involved? Take part in a varied and dynamic range of opportunities beyond your course from abseiling and sports, to music and recreation.
As soon as you start university, you automatically become a member of UCSU. UCSU is also affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS) meaning you’re a voice amongst many students across the UK.
Housing
Our Brampton Road Halls of Residence boast over 100 bedrooms, including ensuite rooms, with each flat housing 4 to 7 students. Halls are just a two minutes walk away from the main areas of campus, including The Refectory Cafe where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Living here, you will find yourself surrounded by lush green lawns all year round. Our Halls are just a five-minute walk from Rickerby Park and the River Eden, with Carlisle City centre just over the bridge.

Scholarship & Funding
The University of Cumbria is offering an international fees discount scholarship of up to £2,000 (per year of study); this is available to most Non-EU and Non-EEA international students enroling with us in the academic year 2024/25.
Our EU Transition Scholarship offers financial support to our European students wishing to study with us full-time in the academic year 2023/24 and 2024/25. If you normally reside in the EU or the EEA and are starting your undergraduate or postgraduate taught course in September 2024 and January 2024, you could be eligible for this reduction in your tuition fees.
The value of the scholarship brings your tuition fees in line with that of UK students and will be automatically applied for all eligible EU students.

GREAT Scholarships are jointly funded by the University of Cumbria with the UK government’s GREAT Britain Campaign and the British Council.
